Danica Patrick: NASCAR parting with no-fault crash

The last NASCAR race in the career of Danica Patrick ended shortly after half the distance with the crash: statement before the very last race.

Danica Patrick's NASCAR career ended Sunday in Daytona as she had not wanted it to be in Homestead three months earlier: in the track's medical center. Reason for the routine investigation, in which no injuries were detected, was an involuntary involvement of Patrick in a crash in the 102nd of a total of 207 laps of the turbulent 60th Daytona 500. In addition to Patrick were involved in this crash, among others, the early contender Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott.

"It went really well," says Patrick, who worked with her former and long-time main sponsor GoDaddy.com for their last NASCAR race and drove the bright green Chevrolet Camaro with the number 7, used by Premium Motorsports in cooperation with Tommy Baldwin Racing ,

"The car was much better than the duel and the training, the whole team did a good job in the short term, I was competitive, everything was perfect with GoDaddy on the car, but it was not meant to be," says Patrick disappointed statement when leaving the medical center.

In November 2017 at Homestead, after a fierce crash in the final race of their final full season, Patrick had expressed the wish that her NASCAR farewell performance at Daytona "hopefully not end at the medical center." That's exactly how it happened.

After 192 races in the NASCAR top league, Patrick's bottom line is to score seven top 10 finishes. Her best result was sixth place in Atlanta 2014. At the Daytona 500 in 2013, she started from pole position. The number of their rounds is 64.

Patrick's best NASCAR result ever was fourth in the 2011 season in the second NASCAR league race in Las Vegas. In just this second league, she drove seven times in the top 10 in 61 races and also got pole position (Daytona 2012) and also 64 laps. Thus, the stock car career of 35-year-olds is at least balanced in this regard.

"Now I have one more race ahead of me, not a Stockcar race, but another race," said Patrick's closing commentary in Daytona. This final race of her career will take place on May 27, when she drives a third Dallara Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing on the IndyCar Series Indianapolis 500 before she hangs up her helmet.

Also at the Indy 500, Patrick is being sponsored by GoDaddy.com. Finally, the only question left is whether Danica Patrick will succeed in the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" a more conciliatory farewell than the "Great American Race"?
